Despite still being in need of the race, Hero’s Honour came from off the pace and ran on strongly to get the better of his younger rivals over 1600m at Turffontein on 12 January 2019. The 2018 SA Derby(GR1) winner was all guts in the run to the line and he is on track for bigger races coming up later in the season. Congratulations to owners, Laurence & Jarryd Wernars, Bruce & Jo Gardner & Greg Sadie. Hero’s Honour was bred by Summerhill Stud!
He did it the hard way! But Chijmes was impressive in staying on resolutely to beat a competitive field in the Listed Sea Cottage Stakes at Turffontein on 06 January 2019. Another well judged ride by apprentice Denis Schwarz, he took Chijmes to the front and dictated matters to steer the chestnut Ato gelding to a good win. Chijmes will be aimed at the upcoming Highveld Classics. Congratulations to owners Jean Marc & Clotilde Ulcoq and Ron & Bev Napier. Chijmes was bred by Summerhill Stud!
Just like a good red wine; Odd Rob seems to be improving with age. Carrying top weight in a competitive field Odd Rob produced a strong finish under Denis Schwarz to win a good contest over 1800m at Turffontein on 29 December 2018. He recorded his 7th win to finish the year off in style. Congratulations to the owners; Simon & Michelle Jeffery and Ashleigh Venter
It’s always a slight concern taking young horses to the Vaal Racecourse for the first time to race. You can never really be certain how they are going to handle the trip and how it will affect their performance. It was no problem for Kimberley Green she took it all in her stride and produced a powerful finish to win a competitive maiden 1450m on Thursday 27 December 2018. Denis Schwarz got her in the box seat from the start and was just biding his time behind the front runners. She responded instantly when he asked her for an effort and she ran on well to win a good contest. Congratulations to owners Anthony Joannides, Greg Sadie, Kirk Michael, Mark Wright & Gary Alexander. Kimberley Green was bred by Maine Chance Farms!
Apprentice Denis Schwarz rode a well judged race on The Bosbok. He took him to the lead from the start and timed it beautifully to keep him going to win a good race over 2450m at Turffontein on 17 December 2018. The manner in which The Bosbok won suggests he should have more wins in him this season. The Bosbok was bred by Summerhill stud.
Chijmes had it all to do in a competitive assessment plate over 1600m at Turffontein on 11 December 2018. Apprentice Denis Schwarz opted to lead on Chijmes and rode a well judged race to keep the favourite at bay and win a good race. Chijmes is a progressive type and there should be more to come from him this season. Congratulations to owners: Jean Marc & Clotilde Ulcoq and Ronnie & Bev Napier. Chijmes was bred by Summerhill stud.
Cold Cash showed what she is capable of at Turffontein over 1800m on 11 December 2018, and proved that her last run was all wrong. Well ridden by apprentice Denis Schwarz, he had her just off the leaders turning for home and she produced a sustained run to the line to beat the favourite going away. This was Cold Cash’s fourth win and there is more to come from her this season. Congratulations to owners Messrs L & J Wernars, A Joannides, A Giuricich and Miss J Alexander. Cold Cash was bred by Summerhill Stud.
It has taken him a while, but Power of Place brought his work to the course at the Vaal yesterday. In so doing he comfortably shed his maiden tag, another top ride by Apprentice Denis Schwarz, he had Power of Place just off the leading pack and produced him perfectly to take control of the 1200m contest in the final furlong. Power of Place has always shown he has ability and he may well go on from here. Congratulations to owners Drakenstein Stud(Nom: Mrs G Rupert), L & J Wernars and B & J Gardner and G Alexander. Power of Place was bred by Drakenstein Stud.
Banana Republic always showed a distinct liking for the Turffontein inside Course. It came as no surprise when she easily accounted for a moderate maiden field at Turffontein over 1200m on 17 November 2018. Well handled by apprentice Denis Schwarz, he had her well placed throughout and made his run at the right time to win going away. Congratulations to owners, G Alexander & Suzan Louw. Banana Republic was bred by Summerhill Stud.
