After finishing two good seconds in his last two starts in Feature races, Chijmes always looked like the horse to beat in the Progress Plate at Turffontein over 1400m on 14 December 2019. He did not disappoint and was always in control to win a good contest under a good ride by apprentice Denis Schwarz. Congratulations to owners Mr & Mrs JM Ulcoq & Mr & Mrs R Napier. He did it the hard way! But Chijmes was impressive in staying on resolutely to beat a competitive field in the Listed Sea Cottage Stakes at Turffontein on 06 January 2019. Another well judged ride by apprentice Denis Schwarz, he took Chijmes to the front and dictated matters to steer the chestnut Ato gelding to a good win. Chijmes had it all to do in a competitive assessment plate over 1600m at Turffontein on 11 December 2018. Apprentice Denis Schwarz opted to lead on Chijmes and rode a well judged race to keep the favourite at bay and win a good race.
